WATERPROOFING and protective coatings

When it comes to ensuring a structure's longevity, waterproofing is perhaps the most important step in the process. Our extensive concrete work and structural repair experience have allowed us to adopt every form of modern waterproofing technique necessary to protect your buildings structural components for years to come. While our protective coatings are waterproof in nature, they are commonly applied for aesthetic and functional purposes in addition to waterproofing.

Surface preparation

The number one factor in the longevity of an applied liquid membrane is proper surface preparation prior to installation. When prepping concrete, we start by roughing up the surface using techniques such as grinding, scarification, or media blasting, depending on the specific job requirements. Our aim is to achieve a minimum Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) rating of 5, which ensures an adequately textured surface for optimal adhesion.

Once the concrete reaches the desired CSP rating, we proceed with a thorough cleaning process. It's crucial that the surface is completely free of dust, debris, and contaminants to allow the liquid or spray-applied membrane to bond effectively. We utilize industrial vacuums and high-powered air compressors to eliminate all particulates. Proper surface preparation is essential, as it can significantly extend the lifespan of the waterproofing system from 10-15 years to 25-30 years, highlighting our commitment to excellence in every project.

Protective coating properties

When it comes to interior waterproofing, we utilize a range of high-performance liquid membranes, including epoxy, polyurea, and specialized E pro products, each offering distinct advantages. By leveraging the unique properties of these materials, we provide tailored waterproofing solutions that ensure maximum protection and longevity for interior and exterior spaces.

  • Epoxy membranes are known for their exceptional adhesion and chemical resistance, making them ideal for areas exposed to harsh conditions. They create a robust, impermeable barrier that prevents water infiltration and withstands heavy traffic and mechanical wear.

  • Polyurea membranes are valued for their rapid curing times and extreme flexibility. This flexibility allows them to bridge cracks and accommodate structural movements, ensuring long-lasting protection even in dynamic environments. Additionally, polyurea’s resilience to abrasion and impact makes it suitable for demanding applications.

  • Epro products are designed to integrate multiple layers of waterproofing protection, combining the benefits of different materials to deliver superior performance. These systems are engineered for reliability and durability, often incorporating advanced technologies to address specific challenges such as hydrostatic pressure and chemical exposure.

Applications of Protective Coatings

These application scenarios highlight the versatility and effectiveness of epoxy, polyurea, and E pro liquid membranes in protecting various structures and environments from water damage and chemical exposure. Each type of membrane is selected based on specific project requirements to ensure optimal performance and longevity, and are not one size fits all.

  • Interior Floors: Ideal for seamless flooring in industrial, commercial, and residential settings due to their durability and aesthetic appeal.

Airplane Hangars: Provides a tough, smooth surface that withstands heavy traffic and chemical exposure, ensuring the protection of aircraft and maintenance areas.

Detention Tanks: Used to waterproof and protect concrete detention tanks from water infiltration and chemical corrosion.

Parking Garages: Protects concrete surfaces from vehicular traffic, oils, and chemicals, extending the life of the structure.

  • Large Garages: Offers seamless waterproofing for expansive areas, providing protection against water and chemical spills.

Plaza Decks: Forms a flexible, waterproof membrane over concrete or plywood decks, capable of withstanding temperature variations and foot traffic.

Traffic Coatings for Pools: Provides a slip-resistant, waterproof surface for pool decks and water features, enhancing safety and durability.

Exterior Foundations: Protects below-grade foundations from water ingress and soil gases, ensuring long-term structural integrity.

  • Epro Products: Epro products integrate multiple layers of waterproofing protection and are tailored to address specific challenges:

Below-Grade Waterproofing: Used to waterproof foundations and basements, providing protection against hydrostatic pressure and water infiltration.

Bridge Decks: Offers durable waterproofing solutions for bridge structures, protecting concrete from corrosion and extending service life.

Tunnels and Subway Systems: Provides robust waterproofing to underground structures, ensuring safety and protecting against groundwater ingress.

Roofing Systems: Used for waterproofing flat and low-slope roofs, offering resistance to weathering and UV exposure.
